On Monday, 17th April, Ms McCall visited Emma Walker, CEO of Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, and discussed the importance of leisure to Fifers.
Ms McCall was astounded by the ability of the organisation to adapt and provide amazing services, including leisure centres, swimming lessons, and exercise referral programmes.
The leisure industry has faced difficulties during covid and has had to adapt to survive. Fife Sports and Leisure Trust have used the lessons learnt from the pandemic to improve its services and has come out of the COVID-19 pandemic with a strong recovery rate.
The trust, which has been serving communities in Fife since 2008, has been able to freeze prices over the last 4 years, making its facilities as accessible to everyone as possible. Furthermore, their facilities have received a 96% satisfaction rating for cleanliness, and they pride themselves on safety.
As the Leisure industry has come out of the COVID-19 pandemic and with many organisations still struggling, it is important that communities, local government and the Scottish Government support public leisure.
Ms McCall was happy to hear about how Fife Sports and Leisure Trust are already seeing a remarkable recovery and about their plans for the future.
Roz McCall MSP, (Mid-Scotland and Fife) said:
“The sports and leisure industries are still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. Fife Sports and Leisure Trust have maintained a great public service for Fife despite the many challenges they face.
“Fife Sports and Leisure Trust are an important organisation for Fife. From providing swimming lessons to children and offering programmes for those referred to them by GPs, they provide an amazing service.
“Sport and Leisure are vital for promoting public health and well-being, and organisations such as Fife Sport and Leisure Trust do an amazing job at supporting people in developing healthier lives.
“We must support our local sports and leisure facilities as they are vital for many communities across Fife. I was delighted to hear how Fife Sports and Leisure are doing everything possible to maintain high service levels.
“The Scottish Government should look at the amazing benefits to communities brought by Fife Sport and Leisure Trust and invest in the health of our communities.”
