Roz McCall MSP has expressed her outrage that the number of violent incidences in schools in Fife has more than doubled since 2021. And a total of 639 violent incidents have already been reported across the region. Most shockingly, the number of violent incidences in primary schools in Fife jumped from 677 to 1068.
Ms McCall has met with constituents from across Mid-Scotland and Fife who have shared their concerns regarding the dramatic increase in violence in Fife’s Schools. Roz McCall MSP feels very strongly about this issue, and as such has called for Cabinet Secretary for Education, Jenny Gilruth, to take control of the situation.
Roz McCall MSP is also gravely concerned about the safety of teachers in schools across Fife. Ms McCall feels very strongly that teachers should be protected from all forms of violence and should be enabled to do their job without fear of harm.
Ms McCall will work with her Scottish Conservative colleagues to raise this issue in the Scottish Parliament and with the Scottish Government.
Roz McCall MSP said:
“Jenny Gilruth and the SNP have taken their eye of the ball on this issue and as a result incidences of violence have skyrocketed across Fife. In January, we saw the video of the horrific incidence at Waid Academy. This cannot be allowed to continue.”
“I alongside my Scottish Conservative colleagues am urging Jenny Gilruth and the Scottish Government to tack action on this issue and establish a School Violence Working Group to begin action tackling this issue.”
“Former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, told the Scottish people to judge the SNP on their record on education, and if they are serious about tackling this issue they will back the calls made by the Scottish Conservatives during our debate.”
